SafeTrack technically hasn’t started back up yet, but the Foggy Bottom and Farragut West stations will nonetheless be closed this weekend and Metrorail maintenance work will impact all six lines.
Free shuttle buses will replace Orange and Blue Line trains between Rosslyn and McPherson Square, making stops at the shuttered stations. Meanwhile, Yellow and Green Line trans will operate at regular weekend intervals, but with single tracking. Red Line trains will operate every 9 to 18 minutes, and Silver Line trains will run every 15 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only.
But before these delays begin, Metro will see periods of increased service on Friday for the annual March for Life. During the midday—between rush hour services—Metrorail will operate about every 8 minutes on each line. That will put service at every 2 to 4 minutes downtown. The transit system is also running more 8-car trains (the longest train length possible), and there will be no midday track work on Friday.
The march will have a reverse effect on Metrobus. Since it will shut down Constitution Avenue between First Street NE and 17th Street NW, several bus routes will either detour or have shortened routes.
Things won’t be better the following weekend, when six downtown stations will be closed.
