Four of Metrorail’s six lines had issues this morning causing crowded trains and lengthy delays for thousands of riders.
A switch problem near Stadium Armory station caused Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines trains to single track around 6:30 a.m. Then a power issue on the Red Line caused trains to share the track between Van Ness and Friendship Heights stations around 7:30 a.m. And Blue, Orange, and Silver Line service saw additional delays due to broken down train at Foggy Bottom station just before 8 a.m.
While some riders waited over an hour for trains, others found alternative transit options. And many people grumbled on social media about the inconvenience.
I really spent an hour of my morning sitting on the dc metro… I’m soooo mad

DC metro is the worst public transportation system in the history of public transportation.

The #redline is the absolute worst and the whole dc metro system is… never mind. Clearly @wmata will never get it right. #dcmetrosucks

#dcmetro @dcmetrosucks how dare you take our money. This is the worst service. Redline delayed for almost an hour!

Me on the Red Line today, waiting 45 min. to go 4 stops while standing next to some guy from the Bronx that wouldn’t shut up. @unsuckdcmetro pic.twitter.com/9NqBDm0nF2

I am reminded why I hate DC Metro again.. The amount of delays is disturbing. And its every single day.

I’m not generally claustrophobic- but 1 hour on a crowded Red Line Metro was pushing my limits this morning! @wmata @metrorailinfo

How bad were @wmata‘s residual delays on red line? Listened to @chucktodd‘s entire MTP podcast on platform in TkPk b4 even getting on train

If this Red Line strife this morning is any indication on how today will go…….

All of the issues were resolved by 9 a.m., but there were residual delays thereafter.
Metro now says service is normal on the Blue, Silver, and Orange Lines outside of Stadium Armory station. And additional Red Line trains are running between Silver Spring and Van Ness stations providing service every 8 to 10 minutes between those stations.
