Over the past couple weeks, thousands of faith leaders have rallied, signed statements, sent letters to Congress, and more to denounce President Donald Trump’s executive order banning refugees from seven majority-Muslim countries entry to the U.S.

Now, 100 prominent evangelical pastors and authors are backing a full-page newspaper advertisement that rejects the ban and calls on the Trump administration to welcome refugees into the country, CNN reports.

The ad will run in The Washington Post, according to CNN, which obtained an early copy of the posting. And at least one faith leader from each state is backing it under the umbrella of World Relief, an organization that partners with churches to resettle thousands of refugees referred by the United Nations to the U.S. each year.

Trump signed the order last month banning legal residents, visa holders, and dual citizens from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the U.S. for the next 90 days and suspending the refugee admissions program for 120 days. Chaos immediately erupted at airports as passengers were detained and attorneys and lawmakers attempted to assist them amid unclear guidance from the White House.

A Seattle judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking the ban last week, prompting the Trump administration to appeal the decision. But an appeals court upheld the restraining order the following day. And yesterday, federal judges “grilled lawyers on both sides” of the executive order in a hearing, as they decide whether it should be reinstated, according to The Hill.

“As Christians, we have a historic call expressed over two thousand years, to serve the suffering. We cannot abandon this call now,” the ad reads, according to CNN.

“While we are eager to welcome persecuted Christians, we also welcome vulnerable Muslims and people of other faiths or no faith at all,” the ad continues. “This executive order dramatically reduces the overall number of refugees allowed this year, robbing families of hope and a future. And it could well cost them their lives.”
