Trombone player Moshe Snowden and his band perform on the Millennium Stage in association with the DC Legendary Musicians, a nonprofit whose mission is to preserve, protect, and promote the artistic legacy, contributions, and well-being of the city’s professional musicians. 6 p.m. Free.

A D.C. native now living in New York, Corcoran Holt has played bass with greats including Jimmy Heath, Jimmy Cobb, and many more. He currently plays with saxophonist Kenny Garrett, but will be at Alice’s Jazz & Cultural Society for a homecoming gig with his own group. 6 to 9 p.m. $10 at the door.

Vocalist Kristine Key brings her band to Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. $5 at the door.

Jazzmeia Horn is a supremely gifted vocalist who is a 2013 graduate of the Kennedy Center‘s Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program and she also won the prestigious 2015 Thelonious Monk International Vocal Competition. She returns to the venue as part of its Discovery Artist series. 7 and 9 p.m. sets. Tickets $35.

Trumpeter Kevin Cordt brings a group to Mr. Henry’s. 8 to 11 p.m. Two item per person minimum.

CapitalBop continues its quarterly Traveling Loft series as flutist and composer Nicole Mitchell presents Amandorla Awakening, her Afrofuturist suite with the Black Earth Ensemble. Mitchell was the first woman who served as president of Chicago’s storied avant-garde collective, the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, and this piece is based on her novella of the same name. Comprised of music, visuals, and text, it tells the story of a future society in decay that must decide on its path forward. The 8 p.m. show takes place at the Logan Fringe Arts Space. Tickets $12 in advance/$15 at the door.

Popular smooth jazz saxophonist Marion Meadows begins a four night run of 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley. Tickets $30-$35 plus minimum and surcharge. Specially priced packages are available for his Valentine’s Day performance.

The music of violinist David Schulman and Quiet Life Motel weaves together jazz harmonies, ambient textures, and international grooves in a way that has been described as “cinematic.” They play the early set at the Bossa Bistro & Lounge. 7 p.m. $10 at the door.

Vocalist Jenny Igoe leads her band from 6 to 9 p.m. at Alice’s Jazz & Cultural Society. $5 at the door.

Cory Henry made his name playing keyboards for Snarky Puppy. He has also started his own band, The Funk Apostles, which is gaining steam. The ensemble brings its energetic blend of funk, jazz, and blues to The Atlas for a 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets $20-$32.

Doc Scantlin and His Imperial Palms Orchestra bring the classic big band elegance of the ’20s, ’30s, and ’40s to the Carlyle Club. 8 p.m. Tickets $35 plus minimum and surcharge.

Rhizome hosts an evening of experimental music with a four-act bill that includes local acts Mellow Diamond, which features cellist Janel Leppin, and drummer Ian McColm’s Nagual. 8 p.m. $10 suggested donation.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14

Gardens for the Lush is a collaboration between Omar Pitras Waqar and Ilana Issa Alazzeh. The duo presents ghazal poetry in English, spoken over the sounds of sitar and electronics. They play the Millennium Stage for their final performance before moving to the West Coast. 6 p.m. Free.

Sharón Clark is one of D.C.’s best vocalists. She and longtime collaborator Chris Grasso give an intimate Valentine’s Day performance at The Hill Center. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $25.

Twins Jazz is usually dark on Tuesdays, but Valentine’s Day is always a good exception to that rule, so the U Street Club will host vocalist Abby Schaffer and her band. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $20 plus minimum and surcharge.
