The revered James Beard Foundation has announced its 2017 awards semifinalists, and Washington, D.C. is well represented. The city has two chefs in the running for Outstanding Chef and five chefs in the running for the Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic award. The city also has shot at claiming Best New Restaurant and Outstanding Bar Program, among other accolades.

The restaurants and chefs on this list were selected from more than 24,000 online entries in 21 categories. Final nominees will be announced on March 15 and winners will be selected on April 25. The full list is available online.
