While we didn’t wake up to mounds of snow, Winter Storm Stella brought a few inches of accumulation and slick roads to the District, according to The Capital Weather Gang, which predicts that the wintry mix should change back to snow before ending some time this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the D.C. government, transit agencies, and others are taking precaution, having announced the following closures and delays:
Closures
- Smithsonian National Zoo
- American University
- Catholic University
- Georgetown University
- George Washington University
- Gallaudet University
- Howard University
Delays
- Federal government is opening three hours late.
- D.C. government is opening two hours late.
- Most D.C. Public Library locations will open at 11:30 a.m.
- D.C. Public Schools will open two hours late (Many of D.C.’s charter schools are closed.) However, after-school activities are cancelled.
- Most D.C.-area Smithsonian museums are scheduled to open at noon.
- Metrorail is operating on a Saturday schedule (all stations are open, with trains coming about every 12 minutes on each line except Blue and Yellow, where SafeTrack has reduced train frequency).
