The team behind Shaw’s beloved dive bar Ivy and Coney is bringing a new spot to the former home of Kangaroo Boxing Club in Columbia Heights.

The Good Silver, as they’re calling it, is named for when you “break out the ‘good’ plates” on special occasions, per a release from Ivy and Coney’s founders Josh Saltzman, Chris Powers, and Adam Fry, plus Carrie Dzwil, their new partner in this venture.

While hot dogs and cheap beer remain a staple at the cash-only Shaw bar, the new spot in Columbia Heights will “focus on simple seasonal ingredients,” pickled veggies, cured meats and “a certain banquet beer combo,” according to the release, which adds that it’ll be attuned to the seasons. So while summer may include some fresh heirloom tomatoes, winter months might bring a BLT featuring tomato jam or rum punch spiked with “a best-of-the-season strawberry shrub.”

Also, unlike Ivy and Coney, the Columbia Heights venture will have some “cutting-edge technology” like credit card machines, bar spoons, and level floors, the owners boast in a release, adding “What a time to be alive!” No word if the new floors will also have peanut shells on them.

But some things will remain the same such as there’s “no need to dress up here; we welcome anyone who’d like to have a Manhattan in their footie-jammies,” the owners say. Plus, patrons still won’t have to “pay an arm and a leg.”

The space will open in a couple months with a large reclaimed oak bar and two shrubberies, among other decor. It will have enough room for 18 people at the bar, 16 folks on the patio, and a few patrons at tables.

Update, 5/8/17: The Good Silver is opening its doors on Tuesday, May 9 at 5 p.m., the owners of the restaurant announced.

The hours will be Tuesday through Sunday, starting at 5 p.m., with plans to add brunch and more weekday hours in the future.
