Police are searching for suspects related to two separate incidences in which elderly men were assaulted on the Anacostia River Trail.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, an elderly Hispanic man was stabbed multiple times on the trail close to Kenilworth Park, according to a release from the U.S. Park Police. The suspect is described as a black male, around 20 years old, 5’10” tall, with a medium build. Police say he was wearing a green jacket and dark colored pants when he was last seen running north on the trail.

Four hours later, another elderly Hispanic male was “struck in the head and body” on the trail next to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, according to the release. The suspect in this case is described as a black male, about 30 years old, 5’10” tall, with a medium build. Police say he was wearing light colored pants with no shirt, and he was also last seen running north on the trail.

The Anacostia River Trail connects the Anacostia Tributary Trail System in Maryland to the Anacostia Riverwalk in D.C., creating over 40 miles of trail.

Park Police officials are asking for leads from anyone who was in the area at the time of either incident and people who frequent the trail and have “observed suspicious activity or persons.”
