(Courtesy of WMATA)Metro Transit Police announced today that they arrested the same man twice in two days this week on charges of indecent exposure for masturbating on public transit.
Alex Thomas-Dorsey was first arrested on Monday evening, according to WMATA, after a passenger saw him masturbating on a Silver Line train as it traveled from Metro Center and L’Enfant Plaza.
He was arrested at the L’Enfant Plaza station and interviewed by MTPD, before being released later that evening on a citation by officials at D.C. Pretrial Services, the transit agency said in a statement.
The next day, and we’ll just quote Metro directly here, “the suspect boarded a Metrobus on the B2 route in Southeast D.C. In the 2000 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE, at approximately 8:15 a.m., the suspect began masturbating and completed the act on the floor of the bus.”
A passenger told the bus driver and the suspect fled. But Metro Transit Police officers reviewing the security footage “immediately recognized” the guy they had arrested the night before. Officers then went to Thomas-Dorsey’s place of employment and arrested him again.
By the by, we’re in the midst of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Anti-Street Harassment Week. About one-fifth of Metro riders report that they have been a victim of sexual harassment on public transportation. Metro was holding outreach events yesterday, just a few hours after Thomas-Dorsey was arrested for the second time.
In a release, Metro notes that indecent exposure offenses are misdemeanors in D.C.
Still, WMATA says, “MTPD devotes significant time and resources to fully investigating all reports of indecent exposure for the safety and security of all Metro riders. In addition, police believe that so-called ‘minor’ offenses can escalate to even more serious crimes.” They encourage anyone who has been a victim to call (202) 962-2121, send a text to “MyMTPD” (696873), or use MTPD’s online reporting tool.
