There is minor damage after a Metro railcar derailed this afternoon within the Alexandria Yard, a depot for the transit agency.

There are no injuries and the incident will not affect passenger service, says Metro spokesperson Ron Holzer. The incident involved a set of wheels on one railcar.

“Preliminarily, it appears that personnel neglected to remove a chock from under one of the wheels prior to moving the car at low speed,” Holzer says.

A Metro derailment in July at the East Falls Church station with 75 passengers on board prompted the transit agency to open a criminal investigation and led to the dismissal of six employees.
