Eagle fans can start choosing today between some familiar pairs of names to attach to the newest eaglets at the National Arboretum.
Over the past couple weeks, eagle fans suggested thousands of names fitting for the new offspring of Mr. President and Mrs. First Lady, according to the American Eagle Foundation. The birds currently go by “DC4” and “DC5.”
Here are the most popular names, which aren’t much more creative than the eaglets’ current monikers:
- Anacostia and Potomac
- Honor and Glory
- Stars and Stripes
- Peace and Harmony
The first three pairs of names were finalists in the last #NametheNestlings contest, which Freedom and Liberty won. The last pair is new to the final round.
People have until April 30 to vote at dceaglecam.org. They can also go to the site and check out how DC4 is holding up after getting stuck in its nest on Thursday. The baby bird was rescued, taken to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore for a check-up, and returned to its nest on Friday.
The winning names will be announced on May 3.
