Amazon is opening a brick-and-mortar bookstore in Georgetown, reports The Washington Post.

A chief executive at Vornado Realty Trust told The Post last week that the e-commerce company has leased 10,000 square feet at 3040 M Street NW, which was previously the home of Barneys New York.

There was speculation that Amazon would open a bookstore in the District when the company began tacking on an additional 5.75 percent sales tax to D.C. residents’ online purchases last fall. The company is required to collect taxes for online sales if it has a store in the city.

Amazon also launched its free two-hour delivery service for Prime members in D.C. last year. Earlier this year, it began offering its restaurant food delivery service to Washingtonians who live in certain zip codes.

The online retail giant opened its first brick-and-mortar bookstore in Seattle in 2015, and is rapidly opening other stores across the country.

Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon, bought The Washington Post for $250 million in 2013. The company currently has distribution facilities in Maryland and Virginia, including an “Amazon Campus” location for picking up orders near the University of Maryland, College Park.

There’s no word on when the Georgetown location will open.
