Arlington County police officers are searching for a man who they say sexually assaulted a woman inside of her apartment after he posed as a maintenance worker.
The incident took place on Sunday around 9:45 a.m. at an apartment building in the 1500 block of Key Boulevard, according to a release from the police department.
Police say a black male, who looks to be in his early 20s, went inside of the building and started knocking on doors claiming to be a maintenance worker. When the woman opened her door, “a physical struggle ensued” and the suspect sexually assaulted the victim, according to the release. He then fled the scene on foot.
The woman was taken to a hospital for her injuries, according to Fox 5 News, which also reports that a neighbor believes he saw the suspect at the building before.
Police released photos of the man, who was wearing a gray hoodie, dark pants, and a backpack at the time. They are asking anyone who may know his identity to contact the department’s special victim’s unit or make an anonymous report by calling 866-411-8477.
