D.C. police say that shots were fired as two men tried to rob a medical marijuana dispensary on Sunday morning.
Officers responded to the sound of gunshots at the Takoma Wellness Center around 10:30 a.m., said Commander Wil Manlapaz, to members in a neighborhood listserv.
No injuries were reported at the center, which is located at the 6900 block of Blair Road NW.
The center’s founder, Jeffrey Kahn, told The Washington Post that two masked men came to the entrance and “said something like, ‘we want weed.” The incident took place about an hour before the center was scheduled to open.
Kahn told The Post that after the men were denied entry, one of them pulled out a gun and fired at the dispensary’s security officer. The guard wasn’t struck, but bullets damaged the center’s entrance.
He said it was the first attempted robbery since the center opened nearly four years ago. There have been no arrests in the case, according to D.C. police spokesperson Karimah Bilal.
