Metro is halting most of its rail maintenance projects next weekend and some trains will arrive quicker than normal for the large crowds expected in D.C. for Capital Pride festivities (and alternative pride events).

Typically, Metro schedules weekend track work for projects like leak mitigation, ceiling replacements, track cleanups, and radio cable installation that can result in up to 24-minute waits for passengers.

But the Capital Pride parade on Saturday and festival on Sunday (with Miley Cyrus headlining the concert) is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of guests, so Metro officials have axed those types of projects on June 10 and 11, according to a release from the transit agency.

However, Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld made it clear last year during the Washington Nationals season that the yearlong SafeTrack program will continue no matter what events are happening in the city. That means work will still take place along the Orange Line for SafeTrack’s 15th surge that has shuttered five stations between New Carrollton and Minnesota Avenue.

Elsewhere on Metrorail, trains running through downtown stations that host multiple lines will run every four to seven minutes this weekend. Plus, Red Line service will run more frequently between Grosvenor and Silver Spring stations during daytime hours.

All other trains will operate at regular weekend intervals with 12 minute wait times on Saturday and 15 minute wait times on Sunday.
