The infamous Adams Morgan Jumbo Slice is about to get some fresh competition in the race for the late night, alcohol-fueled junk food of choice, thanks to new confectionery pop-up The Cookie Jar DC, which is coming to 18th Street this week.
Despite its name, The Cookie Jar DC stops short of any actual baking and instead specializes in raw (and safe to eat) cookie dough. That’s welcome news for the sweet tooths among us, especially those who know that sneaking a finger full or two of raw, buttery cookie dough is one of the best side benefits of baking. The pop-up opens Thursday, June 9 at 7 p.m. in the Rise Bakery space at 2409 18th St. NW and they are planning a long-term stay.
Cookie Jar DC Founder and CEO Lindsay Larner has been selling her dough online and in local markets for about a year now after leaving her career in marketing to start the business.
“This is for all the people who love eating cookie dough out of the bowl at home,” she says. “It is a safe and convenient way to do it.”
To comply with health guidelines, she makes her dough by substituting milk in place of eggs and using a heat-treated flour. Still, she stands confidently by the taste of her product.
The pop-up will run seven nights a week and sell dough in two sizes of a la carte jars or in mix packs. Signature flavors include chocolate chip, sugar cookie “funfetti,” oatmeal raisin, double chocolate M&M, and more. Vegan and gluten free options will also be available.
In order to maintain Rise Bakery’s gluten free space, the pop-up will be takeaway only. All the products are produced out of Union Kitchen, so there will be no risk of contamination.
If traveling to Adams Morgan feels like as much work as whipping up your own batch of cookie batter, The Cookie Jar DC currently delivers through companies like UberEats and Postmates, and will continue to offer delivery every night.
The Cookie Jar DC is located at 2409 18th St. NW. Hours are Monday through Wednesday 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight (possibly later in the future), and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
