This weekend brings the final surge of Metro’s yearlong maintenance plan. SafeTrack Surge 16 begins on Saturday and it’s shutting down Shady Grove and Rockville stations.
Red Line passengers can take free shuttle buses between Shady Grove and Twinbrook stations, and trains will run at regular weekend intervals (every 12-15 minutes) between Twinbrook and Glenmont. There will also be additional Red Line trains between Grosvenor and Silver Spring from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The surge runs through June 25, when the maintenance plan finally comes to and end—that’s also the same day that Metro’s fare hikes and reduced service goes into effect.
This weekend, maintenance work is also taking place on the Blue and Yellow Lines, which will be single tracking with trains operating every 20 minutes.
Orange, Silver, and Green Line trains will run regular weekend service.
