Don’t be alarmed if you happen to see there’s no water in the World War II Memorial next week; no more ducks have been killed by parasites (at least not in this particular pool). The National Park Service is just replacing the lighting.

NPS is draining the “rainbow pool” and other features starting on Sunday to switch out the incandescent bulbs for high efficiency lights. The water works will be turned on again on Friday, June 25. The agency says the work was scheduled so as not to interfere with any honor flights.

In a statement, NPS carefully notes that it is completely unrelated to the work earlier this month to drain and clean the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, after a parasite that grows in snails was seemingly responsible for the death of more than 80 ducks.
