Assuming, dear reader, that you’ve pulled yourself out of a sweat puddle to click on this story, we’re sorry to say that things aren’t getting better, weather-wise, for a little while.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect through 8 p.m. today. Temperatures are in the mid to high 90s, but the heat index is hovering around 105 degrees. Forecasters predict basically the same situation tomorrow.

“Relief” comes Sunday, when it feels more like 100 degrees instead. Temperatures should cool down a bit further on Monday.

The Capital Weather Gang gives the weather a “1” on its subjective rating system. They’re “withholding a ‘0’ in case it gets steamier before this breaks.”

People are encouraged to take extra care whenever temperatures hit 95.

“Make sure you take appropriate precautions during this heat wave by doing things such as drinking plenty of water; staying out of the sun and retreating in the shade areas; avoiding drinks with caffeine alcohol and large amounts of sugar; wearing clothing that is loose-fitting and light colored,” says Department of Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson ” And most importantly check in on your neighbors to ensure they have plenty of water and cool areas.”

A reminder that during days of extreme heat, the government opens cooling centers around the city, which are available until 6 p.m. Washingtonians can also request shelter for people experiencing homelessness by calling a hotline (202-399-7093) or 311.
