The company behind Capital Bikeshare has announced the release of a dedicated mobile app, available immediately for both iPhone and Android. The company says the new app will help riders find stations and bikes and check ride history and stats, among other things.
“The new Capital Bikeshare mobile app will open up new possibilities for CaBi riders—providing a convenient and quick way to find a bike or a dock, keep track of exercise, and make it easier to know that you’ve properly docked your bike,” said Capital Bikeshare General Manager Eric Gilliland said in a press release. “It’s never been easier to give Capital Bikeshare a try, and we look forward to providing our riders a more seamless experience than ever before.”
Previously, many Capital Bikeshare cyclists used the unaffiliated Spotcycle app, which allows riders to see if there are any bikes or vacancies available at a given station. The new CaBi app promises to offer a bevy of additional features.
According Capital Bikeshare’s parent company Motivate, features of the new mobile app include a color-coded map or list view of stations, displaying real-time bike and dock availability; the ability to purchase a 24-hour, 3-day, or Single Trip memberships; (cyclists can also access ride codes, in case you forget your CaBi key or are waiting for it to be delivered); push notifications for ride updates, such as time of trip and end of ride reports; displays of the location of Capital Bikeshare’s weekday morning bike corrals, guaranteeing a place to dock your bike during high-use times; access to statistics including last ride and all-time stats, like number of rides, total miles ridden, and calories burned.
As we’ve written recently, it’s a great time to pedal around the District. Whether you’re just beginning as a biker or a seasoned cyclist, there’s good company.
