Southern food and whiskey outpost Boss Shepherd’s (513 13th St. NW) is shutting its doors for good on Thursday evening after three years of turning out fried chicken and old fashioneds to diners and patrons of the nearby Warner Theater.
Eater DC first reported the news, saying that the restaurant cited “market forces” and a decline in volume at the neighboring theater as drivers of the decision. So far, no official announcement has been posted on the restaurant’s website or social media accounts.
As a final farewell, the bar will open at 3 p.m. today to clear its bar at a heavy discount. It’ll sell its drinks for $5 each, cash only. That is expected to include everything from top shelf whiskey to expensive wines, according to the Eater DC report. The kitchen crew will also empty the cupboards and fridges and serve up a spread of the remaining food for free.
Shortly after it opened in 2014, Boss Shepherd’s (named after a 19th century civic leader in D.C.) found its way on several of DCist “Best Of” lists over the years, including being named one of the “Best New Restaurants of 2014” and one of the go-to spots for fried chicken and picky eaters in the city.
