A Lyft passenger was killed after a truck driver crossed over lanes and hit a car head-on in Southeast.

Officials found 43 year-old Talata Williams, of Southeast, dead on the scene in the 2400 block of Good Hope Road, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release. The collision took place on Sunday around 12:30 a.m.

A Lyft driver was giving Williams a ride in a Honda Accord that was struck by a Dodge pickup truck, according to police.

Officials say the truck driver, who was driving in the opposite direction, crossed over into the Honda’s lane. The truck struck the car and sent it traveling several feet.

D.C. fire officials pronounced Williams dead at the scene. The truck and Lyft drivers were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Family members told NBC 4 that Williams was on her way home from work. “That’s all she wanted to do: get home,” said Williams’ sister Tiffany at a vigil on Tuesday.

“I don’t understand why she had to go like this,” said Williams’ mother, Deborah Redd, according to NBC 4. The case is still under investigation and the truck driver has not been charged.

Lyft spokesperson Scott Coriell said in a statement that the company has spoken to the Lyft driver’s family and is “providing our support during this difficult time.” He said the company is on getting in contact with William’s family, and they’ve reached out to law enforcement to assist in the investigation.

“Our hearts go out to those affected by this incredibly tragic incident,” Coriell said.
