A “clicks-to-bricks” shoe store in Shaw has shuttered, marking the second closure in as many months for the high-end development The Shay.
A bevy of signs in the windows of Bucketfeet announce “The Store Is Closed” and the shelves lay bare in the darkened shop. A person inside declined to comment.
A few doors down, the former home of Steven Alan still remains empty since the clothing boutique announced it would close late last month.
The Shay’s developer, now called JBGS (formerly known as JBG), said that the “near-term plan is to engage a pop-up retailer for the upcoming holiday season while concurrently exploring long-term leasing options” for the Steven Alan storefront.
Bucketfeet began as a website where artists submitted designs for shoes that consumers could purchase handmade-to-order. The outpost at The Shay, blocks from the Shaw-Howard Metro, marked the third brick-and-mortar location for the company, and the first outside of the Chicago area.
In addition to Bucketfeet and Steven Alan, clothing retailer Kit and Ace closed last spring—part of a widescale shutdown of all of its physical locations in the U.S., U.K., and Australia. It was replaced by Argent, another fashion store, over the summer.
Bucketfeet has not responded to a request for comment on the reason for its closure.
