Manhattan’s City Winery is taking its combination live music venue, restaurant, and urban winery to Northeast D.C early next year. When it opens, it’ll join the similarly-named District Winery (385 Water St. SE) as the second New York City-based urban winery in town.

The 40,000 square-foot space at 1350 Okie St. NE in Ivy City will include a 175-seat restaurant and a separate 320-seat performance area. That’s not to mention the showpiece working winery, which will produce wine from grapes brought in by City Winery partner vineyards in California and Oregon. Another 400 bottles will be available to pair with the kitchen’s Mediterranean-influenced menu.

City Winery takes music seriously, too. It expects to host about 300 shows a year, drawing from a slate of performers across genres like jazz, blues, pop, and rock.

The D.C. location will be the businesses’ sixth, joining New York City, Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, and Boston. Founder Michael Dorf says that he’s eyed a D.C. expansion ever since he launched in Chicago in 2012.

“Ivy City has the same energy and is teeming with potential,” Dorf said in a media statement.

City Winery should fit right in with the Ivy City’s growing batch of local restaurants, breweries and distilleries, such as Ivy City Smokehouse, La Puerta Verde, One Eight Distilling, and Atlas Brew Works.

“We love the idea of bringing great wine, food, and live music to our neighbors, giving everyone a new reason to come out to Ivy City,” Dorf says.
