One of D.C.’s most beloved traditions, the High Heel Race returned to 17th Street on Tuesday night in all its usual camp and competitiveness. Mayor Muriel Bowser was in attendance along with the chief of police and at least two councilmembers, not to mention Drag Donald and Melania and the more than 100 other competitors running (or just strutting) in all manner of stilettos. As one previous winner told DCist recently, “you know what you’re capable of, but it’s D.C. You never know who’s going to surprise you.”
