Three dockless bikeshare companies are hitting the streets of Silver Spring.
LimeBike rolled out its two-wheelers in the Maryland community on Thursday, Ofo bikes will be ready to ride on Friday, and Mobike will make its debut at an unannounced date in the near future, according to Montgomery County Transportation Department officials.
All three companies launched in D.C. about a month ago as part of a six-month pilot program that also includes Spin and e-bike option JUMP.
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett said in a release that the county is the first suburban jurisdiction in the country to adopt the dockless bike share system, which lets cyclists park GPS-enabled bikes anywhere they would a personal bike within the county’s demonstration area.
All three companies charge $0.50 per 30 minutes for rides.
Limebike has placed 240 bikes in Silver Spring. Ofo, which is the oldest of the companies though the most recent to launch in D.C., will initially put 100 bikes in the city and expand to 1,000 over the next month. Mobike has not released the number of bikes it will have in Montgomery County.
