Police say that a 47-year-old man from Leicester, England was fatally struck while walking on the Arlington Memorial Bridge on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Robert M. Quinn, says U.S. Park Police spokesperson Anna Rose. Officials say Quinn was walking on the bridge around 7:30 a.m. when he was hit by a driver, who remained on the scene. No further details have been released.

Over a three-day period beginning Saturday, there were at least five traffic-related deaths across the region, according to The Washington Post. Two of the victims, including Quinn, were pedestrians.

Traffic fatalities in the District are up 16 percent in 2017, according to D.C. police data. There have been 28 traffic-related deaths this year compared to 24 this time last year.

Nearly two years ago, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced D.C.’s Vision Zero plan to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and injuries by 2024. Most recently, transportation officials asked the public to take part in a program that helps train computers to recognize where crashes are likely to happen in order to prevent deaths and injuries in the future.
