D.C.’s first micro hotel is less than a year old and reviewers are already waxing poetic about its hip, modern vibe and highly reasonable room rates. TripAdvisor has taken notice, deeming it the best-value hotel in the United States.
“Cool design elements of this micro hotel unite modern innovation with historic character. The prime location means Hotel Hive guests can buzz around the capital and then return to a unique room,” the company said in naming it number one.
TripAdvisor also praised its Foggy Bottom location, which puts visitors in easy walking distance to the Lincoln Monument; painted murals; and pet policy. But most importantly, prices for the tiny rooms (at around 250 square feet) at Hotel Hive generally fall under the $100 mark (some dates over the next two months going as low as $74).
To be eligible for consideration, hotels had to have at least 3.5 stars on TripAdvisor with average rates that are at least 20 percent below the city’s average.
Hotel Hive opened last year with free pies from the in-house &pizza and no less than the mayor herself behind the bar. For a few months it was the city’s only micro hotel (Pod DC opened a few months later), but it nonetheless fits squarely in with the trend of boutique hotels marrying trendy design and homegrown brands to make visitors feel like they are living like a local.
