A Metro employee stabbed and fatally wounded a man who reportedly entered the manager’s kiosk at the Friendship Heights Station and attempted to attack her, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

Police have identified the man as 28-year-old Jeremy Bond of Rockville.

Allegedly angry due to delayed service, Bond pounded on the windows of the manager station, managed to get inside, and hit the Metro employee in the arm, according to MPD. The Metro employee, “in fear for their life and in defense of their self, stabbed the suspect in the chest with a pocket knife,” according to a police report filed after the incident.

Bond was transported to an area hospital, where he died on Tuesday night. D.C. police had initially stated that the man died on Tuesday morning, leading several news stations to issue incorrect reports.

In an interview with FOX 5, Newsham said that MPD is assessing to see whether it is a case of self defense, “but because it’s so early in the investigation, it remains to be seen.”

Newsham told WTOP that officers are currently reviewing Metro security footage of the incident. He also said the Metro employee is cooperating with investigators.
