There’s a lot going on downtown this weekend, but you’ve been warned: don’t count on Metro to get you there. The extended Red Line shutdown continues, and this Saturday is the start of an added treat on the Orange, Blue, and Silver lines.

Here’s the basic rundown: The Blue Line will only run from Franconia-Springfield to Arlington Cemetery to accommodate track work happening on the Orange and Silver lines. Farragut West, McPherson Square, and Metro Center stations will all be closed (Metro Center will still serve the Red Line on the upper floor). There will be shuttle buses available, but Metro advises you allow an extra ten minutes of travel time for each stop.

This is all part of a two-week disruption on Orange, Yellow, and Silver, when Metro says it will address some maintenance issues on “the tightest curve in the Metrorail system between McPherson Square and Smithsonian stations.”

On the Red Line, the Rhode Island and Brookland stations will be closed, as they have been for the last several weeks. Trains from Shady Grove to NoMa-Gallaudet will be running every eight minutes, while trains from Fort Totten to Glenmont will be running every 10 minutes for most of the day.

Here’s more from the transit agency:

Red Line

Buses replace trains between NoMa-Gallaudet and Fort Totten

Red Line trains operate:

Between Shady Grove and NoMa-Gallaudet every 8 minutes 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Between Fort Totten and Glenmont every 10 minutes 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
After 9:00 p.m. trains on both segments of the Red Line operate every 15 minutes.
Stations closed: Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood and Brookland

Alternate travel options:

Free shuttle buses will operate between NoMa-Gallaudet, Rhode Island Ave, Brookland and Fort Totten. Please allow 10 minutes of travel time for each station stop.
MetroExtra Route G9 (Metrobus) operates during all hours of rail service providing a connection between Rhode Island Ave and Downtown DC/Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station.

Customers traveling to Glenmont from NoMa-Gallaudet, Union Station and Judiciary Sq are strongly encouraged to ride a Shady Grove train to Gallery Place, then use the Green Line to connect back to the Red Line at Fort Totten.

Work performed: Major structural repair work, including rebuilding of deteriorated platforms to improve ADA accessibility, at Rhode Island Ave; rail and fastener renewal in other parts of the shutdown area

To allow for shuttle bus and last train connections, the last inbound (Fort Totten-bound) train will depart stations between Glenmont and Takoma 30 minutes earlier than usual.
