Later that night, I got to thinking about desserts. D.C. is a town of cookie dough, ice cream sandwiches, popsicles, and plenty of other sweet trends. I couldn’t help but wonder: Would the opening of a Magnolia Bakery in Union Station make D.C. remember the cupcake, or at least remember Sex and the City?

Thinkpieces abound on which dessert trend will usurp the last as king of our hearts and stomachs, but you know who hasn’t abandoned the cupcake? Magnolia Bakery, which announced Monday that its first D.C. outpost would open in the ground level of Union Station next month. The New York-based bakery announced plans to open franchises around the country this year.

In addition to being the best way to signify that a movie or TV show takes place in New York (see: here, here, and here), Magnolia is famed for its rotating menu of cupcakes, with flavors including carrot, red velvet, s’mores, and peanut butter and jelly. Then there’s the banana pudding, served in food porn-worthy servings. Those items, plus the rest of the menu of pies, cakes, and cookies, will appear at the D.C. location.

There’s no official launch date yet, but once they’re in business, Magnolia Bakery will be open from Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

When the bakery opens next month, take a page from Carrie’s book and take enormous bites of a Magnolia Bakery confection while gabbing about that handsome carpenter with a Southern accent who’s just the guy to get your mind off your tall ex-boyfriend. Am I right ladies?
