According to a filing with the Alcohol Beverage Regulation Administration in D.C., U Street will soon welcome Brooklyn on U, a restaurant serving up “New York and American cuisine.”
A new restaurant is coming to U Street: “Brooklyn,” which will serve “New York and American cuisine.” Someone needs to open “Shaw” in Williamsburg and serve half-smokes and Ethiopian food.

D.C. is used to bars that like to pretend we’re somewhere else: Ivy & Coney has a Detroit-meets-Chicago vibe (complete with hot dogs and a tenacious Cubs fandom), and, despite our proximity to Maryland, you can find Berger cookies and Orange Crush cocktails at Free State Atlantic Bar.
Inquiries to Brooklyn on U’s ownership have not been answered, so there’s little else to do but speculate about the Big Apple wonders that await us simple D.C. folk when the restaurant opens at 1212 U St. NW.
So we’re placing our bets early: While you’re waiting in line amid all the eager townsfolk to see the latest offering from the big city, here are some things to keep an eye out for, probably. First one to bingo gets … a slice on us?
