See films from afar
American University has gathered more than 50 films together for its series “Films Across Borders: Stories of Women” (disclosure: AU owns WAMU and DCist). The festival kicks off Friday with a screening of RBG that’s naturally already at capacity. But other free screenings remain this weekend at the National Gallery of Art: There’s The Two Faces of a Bamiléké Woman (2 p.m. Saturday), a documentary that follows filmmaker Rosine Mbakam’s return to her Cameroonian hometown and discovery of her family’s secrets. And Ava (6 p.m. Saturday) is about an Iranian teenager who breaks away from her predictable—and parent-approved—pattern of behavior. The festival continues at venues across the city through the fall.

Bring tissues to this tearjerker
National Hispanic Heritage Month is nearly over, and the American History Museum is bringing in the big guns: That’s right, they’re screening Coco. You’re going to want to get there early on Saturday: The museum is distributing tickets to its timed screenings first-come, first-served at the door. Don’t despair if you don’t snag a seat, because the NMAH will also host mariachi performances, cooking demonstrations, and other activities.

Go full Norse
Just steps away from the venue where Florence and the Machine will be singing songs from their album High as Hope, released in the year 2018, on Friday, you can also see a Viking ship. Thanks to the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce and the Royal Norwegian Embassy, the world’s largest operational Viking ship—apparently a thing we still have—will be docking at Transit Pier at The Wharf throughout October. Take a tour of the Draken Harald Harfagre, catch documentaries about the ship’s journeys, and contemplate adding more horns and giant fur wraps to your wardrobe.

Drink up
Usually beer festivals come with hefty entry fees and scarce drink tickets you have to use sparingly throughout the day. Not so at the Love Beer Festival, an event from Anheuser-Busch. Entry is free, as are the beer samples and photo ops with the actual Clydesdale horses (no word if their BFF, a puppy, will be in attendance). Full pours of beer, food, and special seminars come with a fee. Participating breweries include Devils Backbone, Goose Island, Wicked Weed, and Babe. Take note: If you do end up paying, you’ll need to connect your bank account to a special wristband, as the event is cashless.

Join some good dogs on the Mall
The title of the MillionCorgMarch feels like a stretch—it’s really somewhere between a waddle and a scamper. Anyway, a whole bunch of corgis (maybe not a million, but at least a thousand, if Facebook is to be believed) make their way from the Thomas Jefferson Memorial to the Washington Monument. Despite the name of the event, all dog breeds are welcome, as are folks who just want to watch a massive puppy tour group. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times, there’s no peeing in the reflecting pool, and non-corgi owners who are just there to cuddle with dogs are required to say “awww!” about each pup they see.
