Former At-large Councilmember Vincent Orange’s title is technically the president and CEO of the D.C. Chamber of Commerce, but really, he’s the president and CEO of having amazing blazers.

Over the weekend, he posted a photo of himself and his wife Gwen wearing matching formal wear to the D.C. Chamber Grand Reception.

His stunning metallic-embroidered suit is what The Flash might wear to a black-tie event if he no longer felt the need to hide his identity. Or, he might be the supervillain that the hero is tailing. Either way, super! Note especially the sparkling gold loafers.

Plus, there was a third family member in a white and gold ensemble: the Orange’s 17-month-old granddaughter.

The sequins he sported last weekend were no one-off.

The pants are more plain in that get-up, all the better to show off the multi-colored, fully-sequined blazer and gemstone-festooned bow tie. Once again, he had sparkling red shoes to match.

Back when he was on the D.C. Council, Orange had some flashy ideas: turning RFK Stadium into a “100,000 seat domed stadium, an 18-hole golf course, a multimedia soundstage, a film and photography center, an indoor waterpark, and hotel accommodations”; 1,000 tiny homes for millennials; Mayor Vincent Orange. But he never dressed with such flash.

Turns out, Orange bought both outfits during a family trip to Las Vegas in February. He had already learned he was going to be inducted in the D.C. Hall of Fame when he spotted the red blazer.

“I thought, that would be something special for a unique opportunity of getting inducted to the Hall of Fame,” Orange says. He tried it on and it fit nicely, so he decided to go for it. He bought the white and gold blazer at the same time, specifically with the 80th anniversary of the D.C. Chamber of Commerce in mind.

Surprisingly, he bought the white pants separately from the blazer he wore to the Chamber of Commerce event last weekend. “When I saw them I thought, this is the perfect match,” he says. “That’s when I started looking at bow ties.” He also bought the two pairs of matching shoes in Vegas.

“We were all joking around whether I would have the courage to wear them—of course I would,” says Orange. “It’s a special occasion.”

He has worn the red shoes one other time since, with a more traditional black tuxedo and a shiny red tie.

But don’t expect to see him in those blazers on the regular. “Something unique would have to pop up,” Orange says. “I don’t want to overdo it.”
