As any millennial knows, demolishing such beloved American industries as canned tuna, diamonds, and Hooters can really take it out of you. Luckily, local plant-based eatery Fruitive is marking the grand opening of its new Dupont Circle location on Friday morning with free coffee and our favorite food: avocado toast.
Like the three-year-old CityCenter location, Fruitive’s new spot will offer a menu of healthy toasts, waffles, salads, sandwiches, and wraps, plus a variety of “liquid meals,” a.k.a. smoothies laden with fruits, vegetables, and optional superfood add-ins. New to this location is a larger coffee menu, according to a release, and a mobile staff that will roam the 1,150-square-foot space with iPads to make transactions. This Fruitive is also cashless, which they say is a sustainability measure, though some D.C. councilmembers have said the practice is tantamount to discrimination against people who may not have access to credit or debit cards.
The offering for Fruitive’s opening day this month is the eatery’s avocado herb toast, which starts with flax and spelt bread that’s slathered in basil pesto, topped with fanned avocado, and dusted with oregano, salt and pepper. Fruitive is also giving away coffee, making it a meal you can feast on while researching your first mortgage or retirement plan.
Fruitive opens Friday, January 25 at 1330 Connecticut Ave. NW. Avocado toast and coffee giveaway begins at noon, while supplies last.
This post has been updated to reflect the fact that the avocado toast giveaway is on January 25.
