Spot the Frida
Mexican artist Frida Kahlo might have one of the art world’s most recognizable faces (That brow! That majestic braided updo! That steely gaze!), which means you’ll likely know it when you see it a million times around D.C. on Friday. It’s the Night of 1,000 Fridas, which welcomes drawings, paintings, collages, or any other kind of depiction of Kahlo. Several spots around town are holding events: In Petworth, see light projections and window installations at locations including Fia’s Fabulous Finds, Upshur Street Books, Ten Tigers Parlour, and Taqueria del Barrio. Meanwhile, The Den at Politics and Prose is hosting a Frida-themed happy hour, where costumes to emulate the artist are encouraged.

Learn a new language
Coding is one of those skills that looks really great on your resume, even if you just use it to build one of those plugins that replaces the word “millennial” with something dumb. Learn the basics at a free all-day course from The Flatiron School, which will cover HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Bring your laptop, and prepare to make all your friends call you the next Karlie Kloss.
1440 G St. NW, Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Dance your Saturday away
Woolly Mammoth’s newest play BLKS takes place on a much-needed girls night out shared by three best friends. Perhaps hoping to host the same kind of night for everyone else, the theater is throwing a BLK JOY PARTY in partnership with Black Lives Matter DC, celebrating its 5-year anniversary. The party includes a dance floor and plenty of hip-hop and R&B throwbacks, plus free food and drink specials.
Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, Saturday, 10 p.m.-2 a.m. registration required

Hole up with some jazz
Lest you think free jazz is reserved for summertime months in sculpture gardens, the D.C. Public Library is kicking off a new year of its monthly Jazz in the Basement series. First up is this Sunday’s concert featuring pianist Erol Danon, guitarist Francisco Quintero, drummer Keith Butler, and bassist Stephen Arnold. Sponsored by the small Library Express near Farragut, you’ll find this show at the Goethe-Institut next door.
Goethe-Institut Washington, Sunday, 2 p.m.

Get Fyred up
Can’t get enough content about how the Fyre Festival became the greatest disaster of our lifetime? Neither can anybody else, pal, which explains why stories from the archives about Ja Rule and Billy McFarland-related debacles and incremental updates to a GoFundMe for a swindled caterer have been all over your timeline. Sink deeper into the horror with a back-to-back screening of the two recent Fyre Festival documentaries: Hulu’s Fyre Fraud and Netflix’s Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. The double feature will be held at The Pie Shop, so you know you can snack on something way better than a sad cheese sandwich.
The Pie Shop, Sunday, Fyre at 6 p.m.; Fyre Fraud at 8 p.m.
