Kegs at Atlas Brew Works.

Atlas Brew Works

Its fight with the federal government apparently resolved, Atlas Brew Works is moving on to its next project: The brewery announced Tuesday it will open its second brewery and tap room in Navy Yard next spring. The expansion will make Atlas the first manufacturing brewery with multiple locations in the District, per the company’s release.

The 4,500-square-foot location at 1201 Half Street SE will be a fair bit smaller than the Ivy City flagship (that spot is 18,000 square feet). But the Navy Yard tap room will be about double the size of its predecessor, with 12 draft lines and outdoor seating. With a kitchen in the back of the taproom, Atlas also plans to debut a small food program. The brewery will have space to produce 2,000 barrels.

While the Ivy City location runs entirely on solar power, Atlas says it will purchase carbon offsets for the energy use at its new Navy Yard home.

Atlas Brew Works opened in 2013 in the District’s burgeoning craft alcohol neighborhood of Ivy City, adding a tap room three years later. Meanwhile, Navy Yard’s craft beer scene is anchored by Bluejacket, which also opened in 2013. The new Atlas will be located just a few blocks away, across the street from Nationals Park’s Central Field Gate.
