It’s a presidential suite fit for a “Veep.”
Just in time for the seventh and final season of the HBO comedy series, the Hamilton Hotel has unveiled a tricked-out lounge and guest suite with memorabilia from the show.
The hotel partnered with set designers and prop masters from the series’ production team to bring Selina Meyer’s stomping grounds to life, though, to really match the show’s vibes, visitors will have to bring their own verbose, crass insults.
“Given its satirical take on the day-to-day political life of D.C., and how it has resonated with viewers for seven seasons, ‘Veep’ is clearly an ideal choice for such an interactive guest experience,” Mark Driscoll, the hotel’s managing, told DCist over email. (Indeed, Washingtonians have historically watched Veep at higher rates than the rest of the country.)
The Hamilton’s 12th-floor lobby has been converted into Meyer’s Oval Office, with original props that include the Resolute desk, a presidential seal rug, a grandfather clock, and an oversize portrait of Meyer. It’s open to the public.
Meanwhile, cast photographs appear in the one-bedroom “Selina Meyer Presidential Suite” (originally they lined the hallway, but the hotel decided to move them inside). Uber fans of the show can spend the night, starting at $399 (including a copy of Selina Meyer’s autobiography “A Woman First: First Woman” and a sheet of commemorative stamps.)
The interior of the suite is a replica of Meyer’s brownstone—including nods to the show like a framed Smith College diploma and a throw pillow of Mount Rushmore with Meyer’s smiling visage replacing President Thomas Jefferson’s in the formation. A lot of the furniture comes straight from the set, including the bar cabinet and writing table.
“With ‘Veep’ coming to a close this season we were looking at ways to celebrate Selina Meyer, and a presidential suite seemed like such a perfect way to salute her legacy,” Yauny Wheaton, director of consumer marketing at HBO, says in a statement.
The suite and lobby are part of the 97-year-old independent hotel’s multi-million-dollar renovation, and they will be up for two years.
“Through our ‘Veep’ suite, the show’s highly-engaged fans can continue to appreciate the incredibly popular show, and its beloved Selina Meyer, beyond the series finale,” Driscoll says.
The Hamilton Hotel is located at 1001 14th St. NW.
This story has been updated to reflect that the hotel later decided to move the location of cast photographs.
