Laugh out loud with some of the funniest people in town
The DC Comedy Festival is back for its second year, taking over venues including DC Drafthouse Comedy Theater, DC Comedy Loft, and Dupont Underground. Comedians, improv groups, and sketch troupes are coming together for this weekend’s final slate of shows. Local comedian Haywood Turnipseed Jr. headlines Friday’s free show.

Kiss cherry blossom season goodbye at the closing parade
The National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade, one of D.C.’s largest spectator events, will fill 10 blocks along Constitution Avenue with colorful balloons, performances, floats, and more. Black-ish star Anthony Anderson will act as the grand marshal, and other celebrities like YouTube personality Todrick Hall and Motown star Freda Payne will also make appearances. While grandstand seats are $20, you can still catch a view of the action standing along the route for free.

Learn the ins and outs of sustainability at a festival
Cleveland Park Library is working with partners from the D.C. government, local non-profits and other groups to teach you and your family about solar paneling, composting and more at its first Sustainability Fair. The event will feature sustainability crafts, screenings of environmental documentaries, and more.

Celebrate at Shakespeare’s birthday party
William Shakespeare’s birthday is thought to be April 23, but Folger Theatre is celebrating the bard’s big day early this year with an array of open house events. It’s a day filled with stage sword fight demonstrations, Elizabethan crafts, sonnet readings, and plenty of other Shakespearean-inspired activities. And yes, the party includes birthday cake.

The festival will take over the former home of Martha’s Table on 14th Street and feature curation and art by Rock Creek Social Club, District Dodger, Kelly Towles, Maggie O’Neill, and more.
