Chipotle Mexican Grill is opening a restaurant in Congress Heights, nearly 26 years after the chain’s founding.

The chain’s first location east of the Anacostia River opens May 9 inside the Shops at Park Village at 1571 Alabama Ave. Southeast, according to a release. The first 50 customers will receive Chipotle-branded swag, including T-shirts.

Right now Chipotle, known for its giant burritos, operates 19 fast-casual restaurants in D.C. With the exception of four in Northeast and two others in Southeast, all of its restaurants are located in Northwest D.C.

Chipotle’s hours of operation will be 10:45 a.m.-10 p.m. seven days a week.

This story has been updated to correct the neighborhood where the Chipotle will be located and to reflect a one-day delay in the opening date.
