Mother’s Day brunch is so last year. A few D.C.-area spots are offering something something a little different for mom’s big day. Here are a few ways to celebrate this weekend.

Framebridge
1919 14th St. NW

On Sunday, take mom into this custom framing shop on 14th Street, which is promising an “Instagram-worthy oasis.” The store will be offering free Polaroid photo shoots in front of an ombre balloon wall. Refreshments and snacks will also be available. The Mother’s Day installation will be open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

Gregory’s Coffee
1101 Connecticut Ave. NW

On Saturday, the Farragut location of Gregorys Coffee will host an afternoon of family-friendly activities from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Expect mug decorating, balloon artists, and more. In addition, all moms and accompanying kids will get a complimentary beverage of their choice (and they’ve got quite a selection of them) and a snack.

Hinckley Pottery
3132 Blues Alley NW

On the Friday before Mother’s Day, take mom out to local potter Jill Hinckley’s Georgetown studio for a day full of wine, food, and pottery crafting. At the end of the two-hour pottery class, you’ll both have learned how to make pots on the potter’s wheel that you can take home in a few weeks. Classes are Friday at 7 p.m., $150 for two.

Hotel Indigo
220 S Union Street, Alexandria

If Saturday rolls around and you’re still scrambling to find the right gift, Hotel Indigo is hosting a Mother’s Day-inspired pop-up shop on the hotel’s outdoor patio. Locally-made wares for sale include vintage jewelry from Madison Ghent, bags from Bliss Handbags, clothing from Dear Elly, and more. Ten percent of the day’s proceeds will also go back into the local art community through Act for Alexandria.

Shop Made in DC
10 District Square SW

Head to the Wharf location of Shop Made in DC on Saturday from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. for an afternoon full of tasting Homeshed Kitchens scones, Pearl Fine teas, and Banner Bee honey. The shop’s usual offerings of District-made ceramics, jewelry, home goods, and more will be available for purchase, if the perfect Mother’s Day gift has still eluded you.

Milk Bar
1525 15th St. NW

Milk Bar’s flagship location in Logan Circle will be hosting a flower arranging class in partnership with local craft studio The Lemon Collective. During the hour-long class, munch on Milk Bar desserts while you and Mom learn how to make custom flower arrangements. The class takes place Sunday at 3 p.m., tickets $75.
