Weekends are good for just about everything but Metro.

This Saturday and Sunday, check the schedule before you try to take a train, as nearly every line is running slow thanks to rail renewal, switch renewal, or joint elimination work. The Orange, Blue, and Yellow lines are all running trains every 20 minutes, with single tracking between a few stations to allow for additional track work. Trains on the Red Line are running every nine minutes between Silver Spring and Friendship Heights for most of the day, and every 18 minutes between Glenmont and Shady Grove.

Luckily, the Silver Line is running a regular schedule, as is our trusty weekend savior, the Green Line.

Here are some additional details from WMATA:

Red Line

  • Trains every 9 minutes between Silver Spring & Friendship Heights from 10:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
  • Trains every 18 minutes between Glenmont & Shady Grove
Due to rail renewal and joint elimination, Red Line trains will single track between Medical Center and Grosvenor.

Orange Line

  • Trains every 20 minutes
Due to rail and fastener renewal, Orange Line trains will single track between Cheverly and New Carrollton.

Due to switch renewal, Yellow Line trains will single track between Pentagon City and National Airport.
