On Memorial Day, Metro will run on a holiday schedule.

This weekend, say goodbye to Metro service on the southern ends of the Blue and Yellow lines. The dreaded shutdown begins on Saturday and is expected to last through September 8.

But here’s one pinprick of hope: all other lines will be running regular weekend service. And the stations that are open on the beleaguered Blue and Yellow lines will have regular weekend service, too.

That’s cold comfort, of course, for anyone who’s trying to take the Blue and Yellow lines south of National Airport. The stations at Braddock Road, King Street-Old Town, Eisenhower Ave, Huntington, Van Dorn St, and Franconia-Springfield close this weekend and will remain shuttered for the summer.

Metro’s alternative? A bunch of shuttles. Blue Line shuttles will run between Reagan National Airport and Franconia-Springfield, though they won’t stop at the Braddock Road station. You’ll need to take the Yellow Line shuttle to get there. Yellow Line shuttles will run between Huntington, Eisenhower Ave, King St-Old Town, Braddock Road and Crystal City. If you need to get to the airport from points south, the Blue Line shuttle will be your only option. Metro recommends you budget 15 minutes of travel time for each station stop, so get your playlists or podcasts ready.

On top of the regular shuttles, there will also be express shuttles: one that goes direct from Huntington to the Pentagon, and one that goes direct from Franconia-Springfield to the Pentagon.

All that may not put you in a holiday mood, but since it’s Memorial Day on Monday: trains will operate on a Sunday schedule, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and you’ll be able to park for free at all metro stations.
