The National Portrait Gallery has plenty of likenesses of royalty in its collection, and now is adding another queen. The museum said Tuesday that it has acquired a portrait of Beyoncé that appeared in Vogue’s 2018 fashion issue.

The shot in question appeared in Beyoncé’s fashion spread inside the magazine last September. Photographer Tyler Mitchell shot the series at a country house in England. “When she sat down for me there was immediately the kind of comfort level you’d have with a friend, which was quite unexpected,” Mitchell told Vogue last fall. “You’d imagine someone as famous as Beyoncé to be protective of her image, but she was really an open book—and that’s exactly what you want as a photographer.”

The singer chose Mitchell—then 23—to photograph her, making him one of the youngest photographers with an image on Vogue’s cover. (According to the magazine, David Bailey was 23 when he shot his first cover, too.) He is also the first African American photographer to shoot the cover.

“For so long, black people have been considered things,” Mitchell told Vogue. “We’ve been thingified physically, sexually, emotionally. With my work I’m looking to revitalize and elevate the black body.”

Mitchell, who was mainly known as a street fashion and skate photographer before the Beyoncé shoot, has since gone on to photograph another cover featuring Zendaya and celebrity spreads for the magazine.

The National Portrait Gallery confirmed in a tweet that it had acquired the portrait. “We’re just so crazy in love with her that we had to do it!” the tweet reads. “We look forward to adding this new work to our collection.” In another tweet, NPG wrote, “Our mission is to tell the story of America by portraying the people who shape this nation’s history, development, and culture. We are happy to work with Tyler to acquire his photograph of Beyoncé Knowles into the Portrait Gallery’s collection.”

The museum did not specify when Mitchell’s photo would go on display. A representative of the museum has not responded to a request for comment.

It’s actually not the only portrait of the pop star at the gallery. You can also see the photo shot by Markus Klinko and Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri that appeared on the cover of Beyoncé’s 2003 album Dangerously in Love—that’s the one with “Crazy in Love” and “Baby Boy” that went on to sell more than 11 million copies. The photo is on display as part of its 20th Century Americans: 2000 to Present exhibition.
