Police have made an arrest in an apparent road rage shooting that occured in the Third Street Tunnel last week. Twenty-one-year-old Daquan Brooks, who police said has no fixed address, was arrested on Monday evening and charged with an assault with intent to kill while armed, police said.

The victim in that shooting was critically injured. Police did not provide an update on the victim’s condition. The Washington Post was the first to report on the arrest.

Brooks has also been charged with another assault that occurred on July 15 in the 4800 block of Benning Road NE, a police spokesperson tells DCist. Two people were shot in that assault, both of whom sustained non life-threatening gunshot injuries.

The shooting in the Third Street Tunnel reportedly occurred after the driver of a Ford Explorer rear-ended a dark blue sedan. Law enforcement said at the time that the drivers exited their vehicles, and the driver of the Ford Explorer was shot with a handgun. A witness told WTOP that a female driver and a male passenger exited the sedan, and he heard a sound resembling a firework while the victim was still in the vehicle.

Police did not say when Brooks will be arraigned. He was arrested in Northeast, though police did not give an exact address.
