Sea urchin flan from a previous dinner dedicated to Jean-Louis Palladin at Kingbird.

Rey Lopez / Kingbird Restaurant

The week ahead includes all-you-can-eat grub from Matchbox, a brew-your-own cold brew class, and the tail end of a culinary tribute to Jean-Louis Palladin, a revolutionary chef who helmed his namesake restaurant at the Watergate.

Celebrating a culinary legend

All month long, Kingbird Restaurant has honored the 40th anniversary of the late Jean-Louis Palladin’s arrival at the Watergate where he ran his eponymous restaurant from 1979 until its closure in 1996, five years before his death. Kingbird, which replaced his restaurant, ends its tribute to him this week with a three-course prix-fixe menu that’s inspired by the celebrity French chef known for using the best and freshest American ingredients. This week, the dinner channels autumn, with a sea urchin flan as the appetizer, roasted venison loin as the entrée, and profiteroles with pear sorbet and chocolate sauce for dessert. (2650 Virginia Ave. NW, all this week from 5 p.m. -10 p.m., $69)

New pizza, who dis?

The new Matchbox in Penn Quarter is serving up an all-you-can-eat happy hour Wednesday spotlighting its mini burgers and pizzas. Food aside, you’re still on the hook for alcohol. (750 E St. NW, Wednesday 3 p.m.-7 p.m., $21.50)

Sip and shop

The original Shop Made in D.C. is moving to a new Dupont location, but first, they’re clearing out the inventory. That means that until Friday, all pieces of D.C.-produced jewelry, clothing, accessories, and knick-knacks are at a 20 percent discount. And if you shop on Thursday and Friday, you’ll receive a free craft beverage of coffee or a cocktail (while supplies last) with your purchase. (1330 19th St. NW, Thursday-Friday 10 a.m.-9 p.m.)

Arepas anyone?

Smitty’s Bar has teamed up with the Wapa Café Boutique to make Colombian arepas as part of Arepa Night they’re holding on Thursdays, starting tomorrow. Your options include chicken, steak, eggplant, and quinoa arepas. Until 8 p.m., pair them with the bar’s happy hour specials, like $6 drafts, $7 wine and $8 specialty cocktails. (3549 Georgia Ave. NW, Thursday 6 p.m.-11 p.m. arepas are $8 each)

A masterclass on cold brew

Give your Starbucks card a break—this class at A Baked Joint will show you all you need to make your own cold brew coffee at home. Ticket price includes a cold brew tasting, and you’ll walk away with four bottles of homemade brew to take home. (440 K St. NW, Friday, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., $25)

Pigging out

Stuff your face with a whole roasted pig Sunday during the Great American Pig Out at American Ice Company. Sip all-you-can-drink beer from Lagunitas while you groove to live bluegrass music from local band Fifteen Strings. (917 V St. NW, Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m., $25 for the food and another $25 for drinks)

A month of bourbon

The Occidental’s celebrating National Bourbon Heritage Month in September with a snazzy new cocktail called Rose of Sharon that’s made with Four Roses bourbon, pineapple hibiscus syrup, whiskey barrel-aged bitter and lemon. Cheers. (1475 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, all day, every day in September, $10)
