Explore Alexandria by bike.

Grab your helmet and head on down to Alexandria this weekend for some bike-riding fun. The local biking committees from Alexandria, Arlington, and D.C. have organized a tour of downtown Alexandria’s murals—there’s artwork of Jim Morrison, a knitting astronaut, and more. It’s about a 15-mile-long ride, according to the event page, and it’s a mix of trails and neighborhood streets. You’re encouraged to register, but you can also join the day of. Just don’t forget your bike, helmet, and water.

Catch two nights of D.C.-based music

Sunday’s lineup features the Main Swing Jazz Ensemble, jazz artist Akua Allrich & the Tribe, and skilled percussionist Sheldon Thwaites. Registration for both days is available online.

Get some new(ish) denim

This Friday, head over to the Adams Morgan Community Center for a free night of fashion and learning. You bring your own denim (or use denim available from Goodwill), and event organizers will bring the paints and other decorations to upcycle your old clothes. And if you buy any denim, the proceeds go towards Goodwill’s Job Training Programs. The fashion designer who created dresses for the Hirshhorn Ball, Evan Ibrahim, will also be present at the event, teaching a free, “no-sew” workshop.

Check out some art

The National Museum of Women in the Arts is hosting a day of free admission to their exhibitions, collections, and events. What’s on the docket? In addition to their inspiring third floor gallery, the exhibit More is More: Multiples is on display until late September, celebrating mass-produced works that celebrate the intersection of retail and art. And if you’re interested in a tour, there’s going to be one at 1 p.m.
