A 46-year-old teacher at Anne Beers Elementary School in Southeast D.C. has been arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a student, per police records.
The arrest was first reported by the Washington Post.
David Christopher Noble, of Arlington, Virginia, has been charged with assault, sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 12, kidnapping of a minor, and threats to kidnap or injure a person, per the D.C. Superior Court docket.
The victim was 10 years old at the time of the alleged incidents, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report, filed in January of this year. The abuse allegedly occurred on the school’s campus between December 2017 and April 2017, per the Post.
The indictment filed in court alleges that Noble forced the victim to touch him inappropriately and made him fear that “he would be subjected to bodily injury and kidnapping,” the Post reports.
The Principal of Anne Beers Elementary, Gwendolyn Payton, sent a letter to parents on Tuesday, the day after Noble’s arrest. She wrote that she was following up on earlier communication regarding a staff member who had been accused of misconduct.
“The staff member was immediately placed on leave as of January 16, 2019, and has not returned to any [public schools] facility,” she wrote.
Noble’s attorney, Edward J. Ungarvsky, told the Post that Noble “is an honest, beloved and longtime public servant. The charges are false and libelous. We look forward to the vindication of the truth in the court of law.”
