Hope you’re hungry! The coming week includes rooftop libations atop The Graham Georgetown and the Conservatory, an opportunity to celebrate the Feast of the Seven Fishes at Stellina Pizzeria, or treat yourself with a three-course Hanukkah dinner at Sababa. Round out the holidays with an ugly sweater party at 12 Stories or brunching with your little ones at The Line hotel or Matchbox.
Bring a toy, get a beer
Atlas Brew Works has its annual toy drive Thursday, so if you bring an unwrapped toy to Boundary Stone restaurant, which is hosting the drive, you’ll score a free Atlas beer. All of the toys will be donated to Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Bloomingdale and passed out to children in the neighborhood. (116 Rhode Island Ave. NE, Thursday, 5 p.m.-11 p.m.)
Get the most out of that ugly holiday sweater
Grab your most hideous holiday sweater and head over to 12 Stories cocktail bar for its ugly sweater party where you’ll enjoy discounted drinks. If you’re feeling confident (or buzzed) enough in your tacky threads, enter the bar’s ugly sweater contest for a chance to win a gift card towards your next visit. (75 District Square SW, Friday 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $12 for all Maker’s Mark cocktails)
Champagne and caviar night
Champagne and caviar (as opposed to whiskers on kittens and warm woolen mittens) are two of Gravitas‘ favorite things, so it’s only natural that the Michelin-starred restaurant would hold a four-course Sunday brunch showcasing these luxe items. Brunch begins with canapés and continues with dishes like poached eggs with Ossetra caviar with Champagne specials alongside. (1401 Okie St. NE, Sunday 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., $180 a person, excluding tax or gratuity; add another $120 for pairings, make your reservation here)Update, 12/18: The event has been cancelled.
A Royal partnership with Italian distillery
Don Ciccio & Figli, a fourth generation Italian liqueur brand situated in Ivy City, collaborates with The Royal’s Jake Kenny this weekend to mix three cocktails using some of the distillery’s liqueurs. There’s the Negroni Á La Mode (Cinque aperitivo, navy strength gin, vermouth bianco, and clarified whey), the Highball Media Noche (C3 Carciofo aperitivo, ancho chiles, root beer, and soda) and Mail For The Gods (Ambrosia liqueur, coffee liqueur, rye, lemon, and salt). (1907 Fairview Ave. NE, Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m.- 8 p.m., drinks $14-$15)
Hansel and Gretel don’t live here anymore
Swing by A Rake’s Progress at The Line hotel Saturday for a prix-fixe kiddie brunch featuring a gingerbread house and a decorating station from Beth Bosmeny, the restaurant’s pastry chef. This brunch is served alongside the regular menu for adults, so there’s plenty for everyone. (1770 Euclid St NW, Saturday, $30 for the kid’s brunch)
Happy Hanukkah from Sababa
Sababa specializes in modern Israeli cuisine, and launches into Hanukkah starting Sunday with a three-course feast available through Dec. 29. The lineup includes classic potato latkes with your choice of five toppings (think Hawaii-spiced apples, labneh, sauerkraut with pastrami and more), braised beef brisket, and a decadent chocolate hazelnut crémeux topped with gold (in true Hanukkah gelt style) for dessert. (3311 Connecticut Ave. NW, Sunday-Dec. 29, excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas, $45 a person, not including tax)
Cocktailing on Christmas Eve
Need a buzz before heading home for the holidays? The Conservatory, the heated rooftop garden bar atop Gravitas, is throwing a Christmas Eve cocktail party, featuring Chinese takeout-inspired hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Your reservation includes canapés and two drink tickets. (1401 Okie St. NE, Tuesday, 7 p.m.-11 p.m., $50, excluding tax and gratuity)
Celebrate Seven Fishes at Stellina
Hit up Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand winner Stellina Pizzeria for chef Matteo Venini’s spin on the Feast of the Seven Fishes, an Italian Christmas Eve tradition in which families eat seven different seafood dishes. Venini’s version brings the heat with a four-course seafood dinner with seven types of seafood: calamari, caviar, cod, manila clams, butter-poached monkfish, mussels, and red shrimp tartare. Dessert will be a surprise. (399 Morse St. NE, Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., $85, or $125 with wine pairings, excluding tax and gratuity)
Santa Claus is coming …. to Matchbox
Tell your kids to get their Christmas lists ready for a special Saturday brunch with Santa at some of Matchbox’s locations in Merrifield, Potomac Mills, Rockville, and One Loudoun. Besides photos with the man of the season, kids will also get to decorate cookies, make holiday crafts, sip hot cocoa, and more. The buffet brunch lineup includes mini burritos, cornbread, biscuits, chicken and waffles, bacon, eggs, and—of course—mimosas for grown folks. (Various locations, Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., adults $35, kids 12 and under $30, children under 3 are free. Tickets must be purchased in advance)
All about the Graham
Cozy up on The Graham Georgetown hotel’s heated rooftop with holiday cocktails, including the Noggy or Nice, or the Sleigh Ride with spiced cherry wine, St-Germain, cranberry gin, and grapefruit juice, and Hendrick’s Gins. Or opt for $3 off mulled wine specials and $20 off all bottles of wine on Wednesdays. (1075 Thomas Jefferson St. NW, specials run all winter long, cocktails $15)
This post has been updated to reflect that the Champagne and caviar event at Gravitas has been cancelled, and to add the Conservatory event.
