Support Puerto Rico earthquake relief efforts at Cuba Libre
Eat out for a cause at Cuba Libre, which is raising money to aid the Hispanic Federation’s on-site relief efforts in Puerto Rico following the 6.4 magnitude quake that hit the territory earlier this month. The restaurant will collect donations from diners who want to round up their bill or fill out a donation line on their check. It’s a cause personal to the staff: Many of the restaurant’s employees have family members in Puerto Rico, and co-founder Barry Gutin recently announced plans to open a new location in the capital, San Juan. (801 9th Street NW, during regular service hours, through February 1.)

(922 N Street NW, through Sunday during regular service hours, Saturday will be an extended celebration from 11 a.m. to midnight.)

Sous vide, the French word for “under vacuum,” is a high-end cooking technique chefs use to slow-cook for precision and better flavor. For the third year in a row, Cuisine Solutions, the manufacturer recognized as the authority on sous vide, will host a sous vide brunch at the Conrad Washington D.C.’s Estuary restaurant in honor of International Sous Vide Day. Guests will dine on hour ‘overs, craft cocktails, and food stations showcasing the technique alongside chefs Carla Hall, who is known for co-hosting ABC’s The Chew, Kyle Connaughton of 3-star Michelin restaurant SingleThread, Estuary’s Bryan Voltaggio, Unconventional Diner’s David Deshaies, DBGB Kitchen & Bar’s Nicholas Tang, and Equinox’s Todd Gray. Tickets are $125, and all sales will benefit the nonprofit C-CAP, which provides job training and skills for underserved youth through the culinary arts. There will also be a silent auction for sous vide prizes and dining experiences. (950 New York Ave NW, Sunday, 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m., $125.)
